Third, auto insurance is the (minimum) mandatory vehicle insurance required in the UK. It covers the liability of the owner of the vehicle, in case they can cause death, injury or property damage using the vehicle.
Road Traffic Accidents:

- The legal requirements following an accident that causes damage or injury to third parties listed in the Traffic Act 1988.
- Anyone involved in a traffic accident must stop if:
- There are injuries
- A animal is injured , or in another vehicle, or on the road
- There is damage to another vehicle, or someone's property
- No damage to street signs, poles or street lights / lamps
Reporting an accident:
If the accident is a minor without injury, there is no reason to involve the police. The parties shall exchange the name, address, insurance certificate and vehicle registration data.If there is an injury, the accident must be reported to the police within four hours.
If there is damage to a vehicle and driver involved did not stop at the scene, the accident must be reported to the police within 24 hours.
In case of a traffic accident that causes damage or injury to third parties, all parties must provide their name, address, certificate of insurance and car registration details of any person who has reasonable grounds to request this information.
If a certificate of insurance can not be provided at the time of the accident, should be filed at a police station within seven days of the accident.
If for some reason one of the parties does not provide your name or address should inform the police station as soon as possible and within 24 hours.

At the accident scene:
After an accident, write down the following information to the insurance company:- Date, time and place of the accident
- Weather conditions and visibility
- Damage to vehicles
- Any injuries
- Behalf of all the officers who attended the crash site
- Details of vehicles involved, including the registration number, make, model and number of passengers and insurance certificate, if available
Making a Claim
Insurance companies provide guidance on what to do if involved in an accident. An accident must be reported to the insurer as soon as possible after the event, even if no claim is to be made. Some insurers provide a specific time period in which the accident has to be notified, this may be from 48 hours to two weeks.
